You can order the following documents online:
- birth certificate
- marriage certificate
- civil partnership certificate
- death certificate
Please note that you can only order civil status documents online
- if your birth has already been registered in Austria,
- if the person concerned in the document has their primary residence in Vienna, and
- for births or deaths that occurred on or after 1 January 1939, and for marriages conducted on or after 1 August 1938.
You cannot use this form to report the birth of a child or a recent death. To register a birth or death, please contact the Register Office Vienna by phone.
To order documents online, you must know the civil status details of the person concerned. However, if the only information you have is the register office ("Standesamt") where the birth, marriage or death was registered, you can contact the register office directly to get further information.

General information
Civil status documents can be ordered online from the Register Office Vienna.

Requirements
The following persons have the right to obtain copies of civil status documents (unless protecting the interests of the person concerned in the document takes precedence over the applicants interest):
- The persons concerned in the documents,
- their spouses
- their registered partners
- their direct-line descendants and ancestors (but not their siblings or other relatives)
- applicants who have a legitimate interest in obtaining a copy of the civil status document in question.
An applicant is said to have a "legitimate interest" in receiving a document if there is a valid legal basis entitling the applicant to receive third party data (e.g. if documents are made available to a notary public in a probate procedure). The "legitimate interest" must be proven by appropriate documents. This will therefore mainly be claimed by public authorities or registered professionals.

Documents on births and deaths that occurred after 31 December 1938, and marriages conducted after 31 July 1938, as well as for births and deaths in Burgenland that occurred on or after 1 October 1895:
- These documents are available from every register office in Austria.
Documents on births and deaths before 1 January 1939, or marriages conducted before 1 August 1938 unless they were documented in Burgenland on or after 1 October 1895:
- Documents are available from the respective church offices of the religious community (Roman Catholic parishes, Protestant parishes of all types, Old Catholic parishes, Greek-Orthodox church, Jewish Community).
- If the person concerned was not a member of a religious community at the time of their birth, marriage or death, or if the bridal couple or parents of the newborn child were members of different religious communities, the documents are available at the Civil Status Register (Zivile Altmatrik), 1200 Vienna, Dresdner Straße 93, phone +43 1 4000-35411, fax +43 1 4000-99-35420, e-mail: post-stb@ma35.wien.gv.at.
- Documents of persons registered in the Austrian Military Register (Österreichische Militärmatrik) are available at the Austrian State Archives (Österreichisches Staatsarchiv), 1030 Vienna, Nottendorfer Gasse 2, phone: +43 1 795 40-0.
Please note: Many register offices that may be mentioned in original civil status documents have since been merged and therefore don not exist anymore. Closed on public holidays. Good Friday, 24 and 31 December from 8 am to 11 am.
You can only come to the Register Office Vienna in person if you have previously made an appointment by phone or email.

Please bring a valid photo identification document (ID) to your personal appointment.
Fees
The fee for written applications (letter, fax, e-mail, online order) is at EUR 14.30. For applications that are submitted and signed electronically (ID Austria - follow-up Handy-Signatur), the fees are reduced to EUR 8.60 according to the Fees Act. Inserts that are sent via conventional means must be charged EUR 3.90 per insert (but a maximum of EUR 21.80 in total). For applications which are submitted and signed electonically (ID Austria), this fee is reduced to EUR 2.30 per insert (maximum EUR 13.10 in total).
An additional fee of EUR 9.30 is payable for each civil status document ordered.

Form
Ordering copies of civil status documents online (birth, marriage, registered partnership, death)
If the application has been submitted in writing (by letter, fax, e-mail or online order), the document(s) ordered will be sent to the applicant by registered mail.
Further information
National documents and certificates are drawn up in German language only and bear an electronic signature of the issuing authority (instead of a hand-written signature). They are meant for submission in Austria and/or other German-speaking countries. Apostilles or diplomatic certifications cannot be issued for national documents.
International documents and certificates are usually drawn up in several languages and are meant for public authorities in other countries. A diplomatic certification or apostille can be issued for these documents as they are usually "sealed and signed" by hand.
A maximum of nine national or international documents can be ordered at any one time.
