Why You’ll Love Making Fluffy Turkey Slime
You’ll love Turkey Slime because it’s a unique combination of festive crafting and sensory play. The kids get to practice making slime from scratch, decorate their own “turkey,” and enjoy hours of stretching and molding. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to talk about Thanksgiving traditions and the science behind how slime works, all while having fun.
What You’ll Need
- 1/2 cup Elmer’s white school glue
- 2 Tablespoons multi purpose contact lenses solution(activator)
- 2 cups shaving cream
- Brown food coloring
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Feathers
- Red and orange foam sheet (for the beak and snood)
- Scissors
- Googly eyes
- Small container (to hold the slime)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Mix the glue and food coloring:
Place the glue in a plastic bowl. Add brown food coloring , mixing until you have your desired shade. Once it’s colored, add the contact solution and stir until fully combined.
- Add shaving cream: Gradually add 1-2 cups of shaving cream, depending on the texture you prefer. More shaving cream will make it fluffier, while less will keep it slimier. We usually go for about 1 1/2 cups. Stir well for a few minutes until it becomes thick and difficult to mix.
- Knead Away: Now it’s time to knead! Use your hands to work the mixture—though it will start sticky, keep kneading until it becomes smooth and it starts to pull away from the sides or the bowl or starts to form a blob shape!
- Create the turkey features:
Your fluffy slime is ready! Dive in and enjoy the fun. Add googley eyes. Cut out a beak from orange foam sheet along with a red snood.
- Add the feathers:
Stick feathers into the sides of the slime to mimic a turkey’s feathers. Let your child experiment with different feather arrangements to make their turkey unique. - Store the slime:
When the playtime is over, store your turkey slime in a small airtight container to keep it fresh for future play.
Notes on the Activator
The saline solution is the key “activator” in this recipe, meaning it’s the ingredient that helps turn the glue mixture into stretchy, fun slime! To make sure it works, check that your saline solution contains either sodium borate or boric acid, as these ingredients are what help the slime form properly.
Troubleshooting
Stir until you can no longer stir (it will be sticky at first) and then knead with your hands. Keep moving it with your hands until it is no longer sticky and desired consistency is reached.Wash hands if needed and then work on it again. If it’s still too sticky, you may need to add a small very amount of activator to your hands and then keep kneading.
